12/11 – Staff Appreciation Lunch:

Friday, December 11th, there will be a Staff Appreciation Luncheon for Proctor Terrace staff. It will be catered by Chloe’s French Cafe and paid for by the Proctor Terrace PTA.

Parents are asked to provide desserts to add a personal touch. Please deliver desserts by the morning of December 11th to the teacher’s lounge. The office can direct you if you do not know where it is. Thank you in advance!

The next Santa Rosa City Schools board meeting is Wednesday, November 18th, 6:00pm at City Hall. Here is the agenda.

iDo 26.2 Program:

Proctor Terrace Elementary is participating in the iDo26.2 program. The goal is for every student to walk a marathon, 26.2 miles minimum for the year (kinders walk half, 13.1). All participants will earn a t-shirt and good health. This year, the iDo26.2 program has joined with the Center for Well Being. The program ends with voluntary participation in The Human Race.

Holiday Craft Fair

Come out and support our school and get some awesome books! It starts at 10am and ends at 4pm. Volunteers are needed! Only one slot is fulfilled right now. Click here to sign up now. There will also be a craft fair and bake sale. The bake sale proceeds all go to the 6th Grade Outdoor Education Fund which will be determined by the 6th grade teachers how it is used. If you want to donate baked goods to the bake sale please bring them to the MPR by 10am on Saturday the 13th of December.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair Shopping Event

The Barnes and Noble book fair is starting on November 28th and ending on December 5th.  We get 5 – 15% of all Proctor Terrace sales from that weekend.  We also get a gift wrapping station provided from 1-5pm on Black Friday weekend. Mrs. Olmsted will read a book to the children at 2pm on Sunday November 30th in the children’s book area. We keep all the tips donated from anyone who wants to participate.  Volunteers will be needed.  Click here to sign up now.

1st Annual Holiday Fair

Due to some major scheduling conflicts the Scholastic Book Fair will only be one day.  So we decided to make a grand event of it.  We will also be having a Craft Fair and Bake Sale.  Everything will start at 10am on December 13th and end at 4pm.  The 6th graders will be responsible for making and selling the treats for the Bake Sale.  All proceeds will go to the Outdoor Education Fund.  If you would like to volunteer for the Book Fair please sign up here.  If you have a craft that you would like to sell at the fair please contact Bess at besslake@gmail.com or sign ups are also available here.

Walkathon

We had a wonderful assembly last week.  We earned just over $29,000. All the kids were really excited for their Zumba led by Mrs. Olmsted.  Almost 40 kids got to take home a prize for most laps walked per grade level and a raffle for any child who collected $150 or more.  All of the following are businesses that sponsored the event or a prize for a child:

Tigerfest

“Thank you Proctor Terrace community for making my first Tigerfest so great! It was a beautiful day and such a delight to see our students in there costumes, enjoying some old fashion fun! I really appreciate all the hard work and dedication that it takes to continue these traditions at our school.” – Kathy Olmsted

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped with the event.  Special thanks to Andrea Blanco, Sheila Parra, Jennifer Nash, Chris and Raissa Hamilton, Connie Sultana, Sarah Navarro, and Harold Nelson.  They were the backbone of the whole operation.  Also would like to thank Trader Joe’s for their donation for the sno cone supplies.  We are still trying to perfect the prize area which is really hard without the volunteers needed.  If you have any suggestions or would like to be involve next year please email me at amandastanbro@gmail.com.  Also email me if you weren’t able to cash in your tokens for any reason.  We have a lot of prizes that you can choose from still and I’m willing to get together to make sure your child is able to use their tokens.

Special thanks to Victoria Bigelow for growing such amazing pumpkins that were used for the ring toss game and also the huge pumpkin carved for the raffle.  The carved pumpkin was done by Andrew Stanbro.

Classroom Move

We are getting closer and closer to move day. For those of you who may not know, we are making some room changes to better serve all of our students. Ms. Johnson’s room is moving into to main building where our teacher resource room has been located. Mr. Swedenborg will be moving in next to his fellow teachers in Room 32. Our students who receive Special Education services and Speech Therapy will be moving to Room 37. We are all very excited! I was planning on this being a year long project but everyone was so enthusiastic that we are making the moves on the weekend of November 8th!

If you are available and would like to help, we would love to have you! A few weeks ago we had a clean up day and It was a blast! I am looking forward to even more fun on moving day! Treats will be involved…

Book Fairs

We have two book fairs coming up.  First there is the Barnes and Noble book fair on Black Friday weekend.  We get 5 – 15% of all Proctor Terrace sales from that weekend.  Plus we get a gift wrapping station provided and we keep all the tips donated from anyone who wants to participate.  Volunteers will be needed.  Click here to sign up now.

Scholastic Book Fair will be held the second week of December only after school.  It will start Wednesday December 9th and end Saturday December 13th.  We will need volunteers for the shifts but we have not yet decided on the times yet.  On that Saturday there is a craft fair that is in the works.  We are still working out the details. There may be a table charge but we have not decided yet.  If you craft and would like to have a table for the event please send a contact form here.

We had to cancel (hopefully just postpone) our Direction 5 Culinary Program for grades 1-3 last week for low enrollment. General Meeting

Walkathon

We need your help and support. The money for the Walk-a-Thon is coming in, but we have only reached half of our goal. The due date for donations has been extended to Monday, October 13^th. Our hope is to raise $25,000. Remember all proceeds from this event goes directly to programs and technology for our students. We are all committed to providing our students with the best educational opportunities possible but need your financial support to make this happen. The Walk-a-Thon assembly has been postponed and will take place next Friday, October 17^th.

Chuck E. Cheese

We have a dine and donate coming up on Friday at Chuck E. Cheese.  The store is in Rohnert Park near Food Maxx.  They have completely remodeled the store and added tons of new games.  The also made Chuck E. Cheese a lot less scary looking for the younger kids, haha!  Each child will receive a sticker for 10 free tokens to use that night.  Please remember to bring your flyer and invite family and friends because 15% of all proceeds goes to our school.

Tigerfest

Preparations are underway for Proctor Terrace Elementary School’s annual Halloween carnival for October 26th from 12-3pm. Tigerfest is hosted by the PTA and can only happen with your support.  If you can help, please return form to your child’s teacher or to the front office. All games & food items at Tigerfest are paid for with tickets. Games cost one ticket each.  Beverages cost 2-3 tickets, snacks cost 2-3 tickets, & meals cost 5-7 tickets.

Odyssey of the Mind

If you are interested in this program for your child, please come to the Parent Information Meeting on September 25, 6:30 to 8:00 in room 34. Learn how students take on these challenging problems with the help of parent coaches. There is no fee for students to participate in this program but parent participation in a variety of forms is key. PTA Membership

Proctor Terrace Parents and Families Rock! We have over 206 PTA members so far! Mrs. Guerrero’s class was the first to the reach the 100% membership goal. Their classroom will receive an extra $100 in curriculum funds. Don’t forget that each class that makes the 100% membership goal in their classroom, by September 30th, will receive an extra $50 in curriculum funds. Remember that family members and friends can join too! Please join us for our PTA meetings held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Thanks for supporting the Proctor Terrace PTA!!!  We have until September 30th to get 100%.

Please remember Thursday is a minimum day and your child needs to be picked up by 11:35am unless they go to daycare. There will be no one hour child care.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

It’s that time of year again! Thursday, September 11th is Back to School Night. The KA-3rd grade parents will meet in the Multi at 6:15. There will be a short welcome and introduction of teachers. You will then be dismissed to go to your child’s classroom to listen to their teachers presentation.

Parents of students in 4th -6th grade will meet in the Multi at 7:15 again for an introduction of teachers and a brief welcome from Mrs. Olmsted. Parents will remain in the Multi to hear the 4th-6th grade team of teachers talk about their exciting plans for collaboration this year.

Walkathon

Our Walkathon is coming up and all the information packet and permission slip(s) will be coming home on Wednesday.  Be ahead of the game by checking out the website site to find all the printable forms.  Click here to start.  Any questions? Try the FAQs page here.

Volunteers for committees and for day of the Walkathon also are needed!  Sign up here to help on the day of.   The Walkathon committee needs someone to track finances, help find prizes, collect permission slips and track who needs to turn them in, pre-order bracelets, counting donations, and putting in the numbers of laps per student to determine who did the most per grade. Walk and Roll

Walk and Roll Wednesdays are off to a fantastic start! Our first W&R Wednesday was Sept. 3, and it was awesome! Enthusiastic 6th grade volunteers from Mrs. Hiatt’s and Mrs. Lyon’s classes sported the stylin’ orange shirts, and along with PT the Tiger (!!), greeted Walkers and Rollers with fun promotional materials provided to us by Safe Routes to School. And yes, Mrs. Olmsted DID walk to school. Our principal rocks! 

Last week’s Golden Sneaker Award winners were Mrs. Millea’s Kindergarten (100% participation!! whoo hoo!), Mrs. Gude-Dunbar’s class, and Mr. Swedenborg’s class. But the whole school did great, as we had 69% participation school-wide!

Walk and Roll Wednesday will happen EVERY Wednesday, and each week the Golden Sneakers are up for grabs for the classrooms with the highest percentage of participation. Go Tigers!

A few other things have changed this year also.  Proctor Terrace is now offering breakfast for $1.50 from 7:45 to 8:00.  Lunch prices have gone up from $2.50 to $2.75.  Lunch and breakfast menu can be found here.  You can pay by sending lunch money or check to school or by loading money directly on your child’s account by using myschoolbucks.com. All you need is your child’s student ID which can be requested from their teacher or from the office.

PTA Membership

Become a member of the PTA for several great reasons. National PTA is able to partner with businesses and negotiate special discounts, fundraising opportunities and other valuable benefits exclusively for PTA members.

One of my favorite reasons is if your classroom gets 100% the PTA will give extra enrichment money to your child’s classroom.  So if your teacher has 19 students she needs 19 members to get 100%.  If your spouse and you sign up for PTA membership that will count as two memberships toward the 100%. If you have multiple students in multiple classrooms then you must only choose one.  Maybe one of the classrooms already has 100% so you can choose the other.

Another awesome reason for signing up is PTA meetings.  Almost once a month there is a General Membership meeting.  You get to vote on important things like how to spend donations or what events or activities we will have.  Every meeting they lay out in detail how all the donated money has or will be spent.  It’s really nice to see how the funds are spent every year.

Click here to see a list of events planned for this year so far.  Contact the PTA to find out how you can volunteer for any of these events.  Walkathon is our biggest fundraiser of the year.  Last year we raised $35,000! All the donations go to helping with classroom supplies, equipment, sports, activities, dances, movie nights, and special guests at assemblies.  Our next big event is the Tigerfest.  It’s the school Halloween/Fall Carnival.  There are tons of games, activities, DJ, food, candy and prizes.  More information for these events will be available later on our website, proctorterracepta.org and our blog.

Art Docent

Docent spots are still available in K, 1, 2 and especially 4. We are also taking names of folks who would like to be alternates/subs. Do you know someone who might be interested, but isn’t on FB? Or a college student, grandparent, retiree, local artist who might like a few volunteer hours?

Don’t forget to sign up renew your eScrip account. We expect to earn around $2,500 this year or more. The best part?  It is absolutely free.  If you aren’t enrolled, take a minute to do so now. One big one that a lot of people use Safeway.  They have a list of merchants and how you have to sign up at www.escrip.com

Walk and Roll

Did you know that Proctor Terrace is the #1 school in the whole Santa Rosa City Schools district (yes, district!) for Walk and Roll?! Our awesome Proctor kids and families have a 60-80% participation rate for Walk and Roll Wednesdays! Can we raise it even higher this year!?

The Golden Sneakers are back, blinged up and ready to be awarded to the classrooms with the most Walkers and Rollers each Wednesday. The Golden Sneaker awards will begin on Sept. 3, but why not get into the routine THIS WEEK!
Every Wednesday is Walk and Roll day! Walk or ride your bike every Wednesday. If you live  to far away or are running late to school just park at least 4 blocks away and walk to school. Your child’s class can earn prizes and trophies every week if they are the top walker and rollers.  They also have bike workshop days and special prize days throughout the year.

Labels for Education and Box Tops for Education

With the points earned from submitting Labels to Education, your PTA has been able to order two new ball racks and 12 new playground balls for our kids.  There are over 2500 participating products that have the Labels for Education UPCs on them. We still have over 3000 points to spend. See http://www.labelsforeducation.com for more details.  Box tops is found on all kinds of things from cereal boxes to ziplock bag boxes.  Go to www.boxtops4education.com to find out more and track how much our school has earned.  You can clip the UPC and put them in the envelope posted outside of the school office or give them to your classroom teacher. 

Tiger Togs

All new students will be provided a “Tiger Tog” or tiger tshirt sometime soon.  We are in desperate need of a volunteer to help out with this task.
