Speak Up for Proctor

A number of Santa Rosa City Schools will close for the 2025/26 school year due to the district’s $20 million deficit. Proctor Terrace Elementary is among those being considered for closure. Parents and community members are taking a stand to protect our beloved school. Below you will find a number of resources about the imminent school closures and what you can do to help.

How to Take Action

Talking Points

  • According to the school consolidation committee’s data analysis, Proctor has the best overall score among elementary schools and the second best score when performance and attendance are removed. The data points to Proctor being a school that should be kept open.
  • Proctor is a diverse and welcoming school — we rank #1 for diversity according to the school consolidation committee’s criteria. We are proud of our diverse student body and want to welcome more kids into our school community.
  • Proctor has high academic performance (#2 in the district). Attorney General Rob Bonta’s letter regarding school closures indicates that a way to minimize harm for children at lower performing schools during a school closure process is to intentionally move them to higher performing schools. We want to welcome more families into our Proctor community and ensure a high-quality educational experience for all kids at our school.
  • Proctor is a true neighborhood school in a central location: it is walkable, bikeable, and accessible by public transit. Many of the families who attend live nearby and the school is an important part of the fabric of our neighborhood and community.
  • Additionally, many families come to Proctor from neighborhoods that have lost their neighborhood school due to conversion to charters (French-American Charter and Charter School for the Arts). It is important to keep a centrally located school in this area of town.
  • We encourage the school board to include data on performance and attendance in their decision on which schools to close (note: the school consolidation committee decided to throw this data out, but the board can consider it if they choose to).
  • We also encourage the school board to consider creative options to reduce school closures overall in our District to minimize the harm and disruption that school closures will cause to kids in our district especially after our community has gone through so much over the last eight years between fires and COVID. Examples of creative options could be TK-8 or 7-12th grade schools.
